Innovation Tri-Valley Leadership Group’s Fifth Annual Dreammakers and Risktakers luncheon on November 14, 2014 will salute young innovators from every K-12 school district in the Tri-Valley. Dreammakers awards will also go to students from Las Positas College and two Tri-Valley companies. The event will be held at the Doubletree Hotel on Johnson Drive in Pleasanton, CA from 11:30-1:30 p.m..

“The diversity and accomplishment of these student innovators is breathtaking,” said Dale Eldridge Kaye, CEO of the Innovation Tri-Valley Leadership Group. “From a fourth grader who found a way to keep homeless people warm, to two students who formed an international online education system, to a documentary filmmaker who tells the story of a hearing child with deaf parents, these young people touch our hearts and illuminate the possibilities of the future.”

Dr. David Hemker, Chief Technology Officer for Lam Research Corporation, will be the keynote speaker. He has spent the past 25 years in the semiconductor equipment industry focusing on advanced technology development. He joined Lam Research in 1998 as Vice President of New Product Development and is currently Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer.

Winners of the Dreammakers and Risktakers event are:

Neil Gupta of Monte Vista High School in San Ramon and Armaan Sengupta of Dublin High School partnered to create “TeenMesh”, a free online peer-to-peer education system that allows teenager from around the world to connect and collaborate.

Autumn Le, a fourth grader at Livermore’s Croce Elementary School used her own money to buy 24 sleeping bags for homeless people she saw outside sleeping in the cold. She reached out to the Croce’s community to reach – and exceed – her goal of 100 sleeping bags for those in need.

Jacob Baer, from Amador Valley High School, Pleasanton, created a documentary highlighting Children of Deaf Adults and their unique but universal experience. The nine-minute documentary was recently selected to be shown at the 2014 Varsity Brands “All American High School Film Festival.”

Las Positas College students Dreammakers and Risktakers awards will also be presented to Thomas Chan and Yone Phar Lin. Thomas is doing an honors project on Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry; Yone, a biochemistry major, recently completed a summer internship at UC Berkeley as part of the “Transfer to Excellence Program.”

Two companies who have recently moved out of the i-GATE incubation program and into their own Tri-Valley facilities are also being saluted. They are TerrAvion, an agricultural imaging company, and POC Medical Systems, point of care cancer diagnostics organization.

It is thrilling for me to meet these young people who are stretching, creating, and leading change to make this a better world,” said ITV Board Member and Chair of its Education Committee, Parvin Ahmadi.
